At the Edge of the Universe

A blue truck is parked by the side of the highway, the tailgate down with camping supplies in the back. The highway leads north into the mountains. The Pacific Ocean is to the left of the highway.

These are the ancestral homelands of the Esselen Tribe, who are still caring for this special space. Please explore respectfully

It’s hard to speak about this film. It’s bittersweet in so many ways. It was a journey we all took, and it changed us forever. I hardly recognize myself when I watch it.

The simpler version of the story is this: Rob was working in Silicon Valley and wanted to make a documentary about Big Sur. I was living in Big Sur, car camping in my 4Runner. The stars aligned, the tech guys and the car campers united, and we spent four years making this film.

If you want the more complicated story, you’ll have to sit down with me and let me tell almost ten years worth details.
